GERMAN at STRATHPINE STATE SCHOOL

DEUTSCH bei STRATHPINE GRUNDSCHULE

The LOTE taught at our school is German and the language, together with a measure of culture, is taught in Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7.  The students are instructed in the ways of second language learning, gain a fundamental understanding of German and an appreciation of a foreign culture. And while German clearly shares much common linguistic and social heritage with Britain and the early European settlement of Australia , there remains much to discover.

2009: Tipp-Kick (table –football) was again a popular highlight. The Tipp-Kick tournament was open to Gr 6 & 7 and after a month of fixtures, two representative teams traveled to the German Club for the 4th Brisbane Tipp-Kick Tournamnent finals. Despite very plucky performances from our Year 7 team [Hunter MacDonald & Kirsty Jewell] and Year 6 team [Jack Bell & Jayden Ahchee; Kirsty and Hunter placed 5th overall and Jack and Jayden achieved 10th place. Congratulations to both teams for their ‘fair’ play, stamina and sustained concentration. We will be back next year for the 2010 ‘World Cup fever’ series!               [www.tipp-kick.de]
